René Berman - Cellist
Welcome to my homepage
Welcome, I am René Berman, cellist. I work as principal cellist at the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra. There I can enjoy and share the most beautiful music ever written. Personally, the musical peak of my orchestral life were a series of performances of Wagner's Walkure.
Besides the orchestra there is still a lot to enjoy. I love teaching, among others at the Conservatories of Arnhem and Zwolle, I take part in all kind of chambermusic concerts, and I regularly perform concertos for cello and orchestra. I am also happy giving recitals with pianist/fortepianist Michael Kruecker on modern or classical cello.
I have a extensive repertoire of pieces for cello solo; Not only because it's such great music, but also because the planning of rehearsals is a lot easier when you are on your own.Three soloworks have my special love: The Sonata by Rudolf Escher because I play on the Möller-cello on which the Dutch grandfather of celloplaying, Carel van Leeuwen-Boomkamp, did the first performance; second the "Apparences" by Ton de Leeuw, which I consider the best post-war composition for cello allone, and third, of course and ever again, the suites by Johann Sebastian Bach
