René Berman has been solo cellist of the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra since 1994, and teaches the cello at the Arnhem Conservatory. He is also frequently asked to teach chamber music courses. Berman studied with Ben de Ligt and William Pleeth. He regularly performs as a soloist. Berman gives recitals all across the Netherlands, first with pianist Kees Wieringa . This duo  played for radio and television and has recorded a number of CDs that have been very favourably received. They also made concert tours in several European countries, the United States and in Indonesia, where Berman was a cello teacher at the Yogyakarta Conservatory for a year.  Now he plays with pianist Michael Krucker, so far with concerts in Berlin, the Netherlands and they are planning tours through Asia. Rene sometimes joins leading ensembles like Conjunto Iberico, the Combattimento Consort and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He is 'cellist in residence' with RrOOD, an association of philosophers, authors, poets, actors, scientists and musicians. Berman also plays the viola da gamba and the baroque cello.
